Bio

Born in the capital city of the DRC, David Kalombo aka Groovy is an independent 21 year old rapper, singer and songwriter based in the north of Johannesburg, South Africa. He relocated to the City of Gold with his Mom and sister back in 2010 and describes South Africa as a more urbanised place compared to his native country he believes he’s in the right place to make his music career blossom.

Growing up in the DRC, young David would be found listening to a range of music from French Hip Hop, Pop, and Zouk to R&B; classical music , traditional Latin and Congolese sounds. By the time he had interest in making music, he was deeply inspired by Michael Jackson. His musical genius, his art of dancing and ability to cultivate millions of people with his timeless music.

David first decided to take his interest in dance a bit more seriously when he joined a dance studio led by Mike Museum in 2017. This led to him dancing on stage at competitions and a back up dancer for many other performing acts.

In 2018, Groovy teamed up with a few local singers and producers making his first solo EP with the likes of Sean8laxk, chronic, Dominic and Zanoxolo. This gave birth to his musical ego and decided to go as ‘Groovy’ as it was more representative of his sound, passion and talents.

Groovy recently released a single titled “Vie En Rose” which he says was inspired by a lady who he prefers to keep anonymous. He also anticipates releasing another a mixtape titled ‘Confinement’.

A project that he describes as “experimental “ with a complimentary mix of different sounds and influences of Hip Hop and, well Groove.
